Saanich Police are searching for witnesses after a liquor store was robbed at gunpoint on Wednesday night.

At around 4:25 p.m. on February 19th, a man wearing a black ski mask entered the Maude Hunter’s liquor store and approached the cashier.

The suspect brandished a handgun before grabbing the cash register, then fleeing the store and running down Shelbourne Street carrying the register.

Saanich Police were called and contained the area to search for the suspect, but were unable to find him. Some witnesses reported a man who matched his description running down Shelbourne Street.

At the time of the incident, the man was wearing a black ski mask, black hoody, and black pants.

“Our officers are still out gathering information, speaking to witnesses and obtaining video surveillance,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades.

“Anytime there is mention of a firearm involved in an incident such as this, we treat it with the highest safety priority. We did reach out and offer support to the employee involved.”

Anyone who saw the suspect is asked to contact Saanich Police and any drivers who were in the area are requested to check their dash cam footage for videos that may provide evidence.

You can contact Saanich Police at (250) 475-4321.
