Tim Hortons is bringing back annual ‘Roll up the Rim to Win’ with some major changes

It’s been a pre-Spring tradition in Canada for 35 years. And now, it’s getting a facelift.

Tim Hortons is bringing back their annual ‘Roll up the Rim to Win’ coffee cup contest on March 11th, but this year, patrons can enter in two ways.

Although the contest runs for four weeks, the physical ‘Roll up the Rim’ coffee cups will only be sold for the first two weeks.

The remainder of the contest will take place online in an effort to promote sustainability, according to the company.

For the duration of the contest period, between March 11th and April 7th, patrons who are Tims Rewards members can scan their card or app while ordering a hot beverage and get a digital “roll” in the app or online.

During the first two weeks, Tims Rewards members will get two rolls when they buy a drink at the coffee chain – one on the cup and one online.

After two weeks, Roll Up the Rim can only be played on the app or online until the contest closes.

“We listened to the feedback from our guests, who wanted us to modernize the program. We’re excited to share the news that we are updating Roll Up the Rim To Win in 2020 to reflect the future of the Tim Hortons brand, while still embracing the best of our heritage,” said Chief Marketing Officer Hope Bagozzi in a statement.

In an additional attempt to promote sustainable practices, Tim Hortons will be awarding three digital rolls per hot beverage purchase to any customer who brings their own reusable mug for all four weeks of the contest.

The company is kicking off ‘Roll up the Rim to Win’ season by giving away 1.8 million reusable cups for free on March 10th.

Prizes to be won include over 17 million coffee and food prizes, 45,000 $25 TimCards, 150 $1,000 CIBC Prepaid Cards, 100 40,000 AIR MILES® Reward Miles, 10 2020 Hyundai IONIQ Electric or Hybrid Vehicles, and last but not least, four draws of $100,000 each.

These $100,000 draws will be replacing the disappointing ‘Please Play Again’ sign. Guests who do not win anything else will be entered to win one of four $100,000 draws.

How to Download and Use the App

  • Download the Tim Hortons app
  • Register your Tims Rewards card number on the app
  • Buy a hot beverage and scan the app or card at the time of purchase
  • Rolls on the app will appear in a guest’s Tim Hortons mobile app or online account

Happy rolling!
