Extinction Rebellion protesters in Victoria plan citizen’s arrest of Premier Horgan this morning

Protesters in the group Extinction Rebellion Vancouver Island are planning a citizen’s arrest of Premier John Horgan at his home in Langford on Tuesday morning.

In a phone call with Victoria Buzz, organizer Howard Breen said the group would be conducting a lockdown outside his driveway before attempting to execute a citizen’s arrest of the Premier in an attempt to disrupt the B.C. government budget speech this afternoon.

These actions are in solidarity with Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs, Indigenous peoples, and settler support groups in support of Wet’suwet’en sovereignty.

“The events of the past week on Wet’suwet’en territories have been an extreme demonstration of colonial violence, approved by the Trudeau and Horgan governments in contravention of Wet’suwet’en, Canadian and international law,” reads a statement from the group sent on Monday night.

“We join the Wet’suwet’en in urging the Horgan government to stop privileging corporate interests over indigenous sovereign rights and the integrity of the Yintah.”
