Victoria human trafficking suspect adopts new name to conduct business on Facebook

Just days after two Victoria residents accused of human trafficking were released from custody at a bail hearing, one of them has adopted a new persona on Facebook.

36-year-old Shermineh Sheri Ziaee and 23-year-old Shawn Alexander Kelly were both granted bail terms at a hearing in Swift Current, SK on February 4th, while twin brothers Seyed Kourosh Miralinaghi and Seyed Kamran Miralinaghi were denied bail.

The four were caught speeding in unison along Highway 1 near the Saskatchewan city and when police were in the process of issuing tickets, they noticed two underaged girls without identification in the vehicles.

All four suspects were arrested and charged with several offences related to human trafficking.

Ziaee, believed to be the mother of the two 19-year-old brothers, continues to maintain an active presence on social media under a new name.

According to screenshots shared across online groups in southern Vancouver Island, Ziaee is currently using a Facebook profile with the name ‘Nadi San’ to conduct transactions through Marketplace.

This profile contains photos of Ziaee and the two 19-year-olds accused alongside her – images that appeared in her original Facebook profile created under her own name that appears to no longer exist.

While the new profile was created in 2016, it appears to have been mostly dormant until just a few days ago. According to the bio, the owner of the account claims to live in Madison, Wisconsin, but notes that she is from Victoria.

Over the weekend, ‘Nadi San’ posted several items for sale on Facebook Marketplace including two rings, a wallet, and a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta. She also shared images of a Classic Porsche 911 car, with license plate ‘654 WAM’.

Screenshots of this profile and its activity are being shared online with words of caution, warning young women against meeting with the woman selling the items.

Terms of bail for Shermineh Sheri Ziaee included a $1,000 deposit along with several conditions, while Kelly required no monetary deposit.

Their terms include:

  • abstaining from drugs or alcohol;
  • no contact with anyone under the age of 18 under unless under approved circumstances;
  • no contact with complainants, or co-accused;
  • staying away from areas where children may be;
  • stay within 150 kilometres of his residence;
  • follow a curfew;
  • and contact a probation officer following release

The other two accused remain in custody, and all four will appear in court again on March 11th.
