Warning issued for Greater Victoria as winds expected to reach up to 90 km/h

Strong winds in Greater Victoria and west Vancouver Island Sunday are expected to continue into early Monday morning, according to Environment Canada.

The weather agency issued a warning saying that the southwest winds of 60 to 90 km/h will persist this evening then ease early tomorrow morning.

“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur,” the warning reads.

As of this publication at 5:15 p.m.,   BC Hydro was reporting over 6,000 power outages on southern Vancouver Island. The most recent large outage occurred in Saanich, just over 2,000 lost power.

In western parts of the island, gusts could reach 100 km/h before easing as the Pacific storm system moves inland.
