Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for Greater Victoria warning residents of an intense Pacific low pressure system bringing strong southwest winds of 70 km/h to the region on Friday evening.

According to the weather authority, the winds are expected to ease late overnight as the pressure system moves into Washington.

Similar wind warnings have also been issued for East, West, and Inland Vancouver Island.

Western sections of the island can expect winds of 60 km/h gusting to 90 km/h this evening, and will begin to ease up on Saturday as the low moves to Washington.

Similarly, strong southwest winds of 50 to 70 km/h will affect the Southern Gulf Islands, Inland Vancouver Island, and over southern sections of Metro Vancouver and western Fraser Valley beginning late this afternoon.
