Nanaimo teenager Lauren Spencer-Smith is making some big waves in the music world with her melodies.
The 16-year-old singer hails from Nanaimo and has been captivating Canadian audiences with her voice in recent years, earning her a JUNO award nomination for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year for her debut album, ‘Unplugged, Vol. 1’.
Now, Spencer-Smith has left legends Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Ritchie speechless after her American Idol audition during which she performed her rendition of ‘What About Us’ by P!nk.
All three judges were so moved by her performance that they voted her through to the next stage of the competition.
“You are wise and gifted well beyond your age,” said Lionel Ritchie. “I had to close my eyes for a minute to go ‘who am I listening to?’. Amazing control; and as much as I want to critique, I just think you just did a great job.”
“You may be 16, but that voice is a thousand years old,” added Katy Perry.
The young singer will now be moving on to ‘Hollywood Week’ which begins airing on March 16th.
