Authorities investigating series of suspicious fires in Saanich and Oak Bay

Saanich Police and Fire departments are investing a series of suspicious fires that spanned the municipal borders of Saanich and Oak Bay.

The arsons were set in the area of Camosun college overnight on Sunday night and early Monday morning.

According to Saanich Police, the most serious fire caused extensive damage and involved three vehicles stored in a maintenance compound at Lansdowne campus of Camosun College.

Several other fires were reported in the 3100 block of Service Street near Lansdowne Middle School, in which garbage cans were set ablaze.

Investigators believe the suspect or suspects were walking through the area while committing the arsons.

The region affected by the fires includes homes in in the Camosun College, North Dairy, and Lansdowne School area.

Officers ask that anyone who may have encountered or witnessed anything suspicious in that area between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Monday morning contact police.

Anyone with security cameras or doorbell cameras have also been requested to review their footage to see if persons of interest could be identified.
