BC Coroners Service confirms woman dies after getting struck by vehicle in Saanich

In a statement to Victoria Buzz, BC Coroners Service confirmed that the woman who was struck by a vehicle in Saanich on Wednesday has succumbed to her injuries.

The intersection of Cedar Hill Cross Road and Blenkinsop Road in the 3900-block of Cedar Hill Cross Road was closed to all traffic starting around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday March 11th, as authorities rushed to the scene of a collision between a Mini Cooper and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a female victim, was rushed to hospital in serious condition.

On Thursday morning, BC Coroners Service confirmed that the woman has succumbed to her injuries and authorities are now working to determine how, where, when and by what means she came to her unexpected death.

In a statement yesterday afternoon, Saanich Police requested public assistance in identifying the victim.

She was described as a slim 67-year-old woman of Asian descent, standing 5’1″ tall. At the time of the incident, the woman was wearing a green Gap windbreaker, black toque, white mittens, off white khaki pants and brown Timberland hiking boots.

As of Thursday, D/Sgt. Damian Kowalewich confirmed that she has been identified, but police will not be releasing her identity.

“Investigators are working to determine exactly what occurred. A fulsome investigation will take place with the assistance of our Detective Division and Collision Analysts. Our condolences go out the family and friends,” said Kowalewich in a statement.
