A Colwood woman returned home to find a break-and-enter suspect still in her basement suite – the suspect then fled and was later captured by K9 police service dog Erik.

On March 25th, West Shore RCMP say they received a report of a man who had broken into a basement suite of a residence located near the intersection of Metchosin and Wishart Roads in Colwood.

The tenant returned home to find an unknown man in her suite – she was not harmed in this incident – but the man fled foot as police were being called.

West Shore RCMP frontline officers along with the K-9 Unit surrounded the area right away.

K9 police service dog Erik and his handler Cpl. Sansome located the man hiding in some bushes not long after.

A 29-year-old suspect was arrested for break and enter and for failing to comply with a probation order. He was held in custody.

West Shore RCMP reminds residents that if they see something suspicious to call 911 or the non-emergency line for reporting something after the fact.
