Saanich Police are working to identify the driver of an SUV who crashed into an office building and caused extensive damage to both the exterior and interior.

At around 10 p.m. on Monday, March 9th, a patrol officer witnessed a Saturn SUV with BC license plate HL7 94K speeding in the area of Tennyson Avenue and Boleskine Road.

When the officer attempted to pull the driver over, the suspect continued to speed and accelerated out of sight.

Eventually, the officer located the vehicle which had then crashed into a commercial building at 3645 Tillicum Road, at the corner of Tillicum Road and the Trans Canada Highway.

The building houses the office of The Condo Group Real Estate and LASIK MD, the former of which sustained heavy damage as a result of the crash. Fortunately no injuries have been reported as a result of this incident.

However after the crash, the driver and any possible passengers of the vehicle had fled prior to police arrival and could not be located despite a K9 search.

Officers are now working to determine the identity of the driver and state that Criminal Code and Motor Vehicle Act charges will be considered once the investigation is complete.

According to Tony Zarsadias, co-owner of The Condo Group Real Estate, the crash destroyed about one-third of their office, causing between $100,000 and $200,000 worth of damage.

“It compromised not the structure but the exterior of the building, destroyed windows, all the office furniture, light fixtures, computers, monitors, etc.,” Zarsadias tells Victoria Buzz.

“The insurance company and remedial company are sectioning off the work area so we can still work in the other part of the office.”
