Nanaimo truck thieves nabbed in under five minutes by RCMP

Share

Nanaimo RCMP took less than five minutes to recover a stolen truck and arrest the alleged thieves over the weekend.

On Saturday April 11th,  a vehicle was reported stolen at 12:57 a.m. from a residence on Norsea Road. The owners said they heard their vehicle start up and be driven away.

Minutes after the call, an RCMP officer spotted a truck matching the description of the stolen vehicle speeding southbound along Terminal Avenue.

Police pulled the vehicle over on on Townsite Road at 1:01 a.m. – just four minutes after the theft – and two men, aged 24 and 25 were arrested.

“The owners of the truck were contacted by officers and needless to say, they were ecstatic to hear that their vehicle had been recovered and without any damage to it,” said Cst. Gary O’Brien in a press release.

The two men were released on a Promise to Appear late Saturday morning and face charges of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property.

They are due to appear in Nanaimo Provincial court on July 14th.
