West Shore RCMP arrest late night mailbox thief in Langford

A 30-year-old man was arrested after he was caught breaking into a community mailbox in Langford on Monday.

According to West Shore RCMP, they received a call around 12:20 a.m. about a mailbox theft in progress at the community mailbox located at 791 Station Avenue.

The resident told police they witnessed a male suspect break into the mailboxes and run away on foot.

West Shore RCMP officers were on scene within minutes, and located the suspect quickly thanks to a good description provided by the witness.

The suspect was identified as a 30-year-old man, who was also breaching court-ordered curfew conditions. He was arrested for a variety of offences including, mischief under $5,000, theft from mail, resisting arrest, and failure to comply with conditions.

“Officers recovered the stolen mail and it will be returned to Canada Post. We want to say thank you to the good citizen who called police right away,” said Cst. Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer West Shore RCMP.
