BC Ferries adds additional sailings to major Vancouver Island route

Share

BC Ferries announced on Thursday that they are adjusting service levels on the (Vancouver) Tsawwassen – (Victoria) Swartz Bay route, adding extra sailings to their current reduced schedule.

The ferry service says this is to ensure capacity for the continued movement of essential goods to and from Vancouver Island.

The additional sailings will include:

  • An 11 a.m. sailing from Swartz Bay, and a 1 p.m. sailing from Tsawwassen, available Monday through Friday, effective May 15th
  • A 7 a.m sailing from Swartz Bay, and a 9 a.m. sailing from Tsawwassen, effective as of May 16th
  • On Sundays, a 3 p.m. sailing from Tsawwassen, and 5 p.m. sailing from Swartz Bay, effective as of May 24th

As per Transport Canada guidelines, these sailings will maintain a 50 per cent passenger capacity reduction, which is in effect until at least June 30th.

BC Ferries says they will continue to monitor traffic, as well as the need for additional sailings.

They also continue to take steps to protect the health and safety of passengers and crew amid COVID-19, as well as try to maintain service levels to current demand.

All food and retail outlets at terminals and on board the vessels will remain closed until further notice, including vending machines.

BC Ferries continues to advise customers to avoid non-essential travel at this time.
