BC SPCA launches virtual fundraiser to support animals in need amid pandemic

Share

With physical distancing measures still in effect and large gatherings prohibited, the BC SPCA is taking one of its popular fundraising events online.

‘Lock-in for Love’ events, held across the entire province, were one of a variety of fundraising opportunities for the animal care group, integrating animal kennels into the money-gathering efforts.

“Our Lock-ins for Love were held at our branches all across the province,” says Tess Repenning, a senior manager with the BC SPCA.

“We had a handful of supporters, maybe close to 10 (per branch), who actually came into the branch and went into a kennel with a shelter animal and raise funds to secure their release.”

Due to the pandemic, the organization has cancelled all in-person fundraising events until September.

With that in mind, they’ve decided to create Lock-ins for Love: Home Edition. People can raise money as teams or individuals, between now and June 13th.

On that date, the fundraising ends and an online event will be held by the BC SPCA.

“While the world has slowed down during COVID-19, unfortunately animal cruelty has not,” says Tess Repenning.

“During times of crisis, whether it be COVID-19, wildfires, floods or rescuing animals from violent or neglectful situations, the animals need your help more than ever.”

Registration is free and open now, and participants have a full month to raise funds, leading up to the online celebration.
