Sidewalks temporarily expanded in sections of Oak Bay Ave for physical distancing

The District of Oak Bay has expanded sections of sidewalk along Oak Bay Ave.

Effective today, Friday May 1st, the expanded sidewalks have been demarcated using barricades and No Parking signs along the north sides.

The two sections being modified are:

  • Mitchell Street to just before Wilmot Avenue (street parking will still be available on the south side of the street)
  • Clive Drive to Prospect Place

These measures were implemented to allow pedestrians in the municipality to maintain a safe physical distance while out in Oak Bay Village.

“District staff will continue to monitor and evaluate these changes and make adjustments as necessary,” reads a statement from Oak Bay.

The City of Victoria used similar measures, restricting vehicle access and realigning parking, to encourage physical distancing in high traffic areas at Beacon Hill Park and along Dallas Road.
