A new grocery store is opening in Victoria in July, with a focus on providing the community with fresh, locally-produced goods.
The Urban Grocer is set to open their flagship store at 1625 Fort Street, located right in a popular collection of businesses known as ‘The Junction’.
Though renovations are still underway for the new community
The Urban Grocer’s new location might be remembered as a post office by some, but 58 years ago the building was once home to a Safeway Store.
The ownership group behind Urban Grocer are experienced grocers on Vancouver Island and Salt Spring, and look to offer fresh quality local produce, a deli with in-house chef creations, and grocery items.
“This location holds a special place in the heart of our owner, Leigh Large,” says Urban Grocer General Manager, Shawn Fahr.
“He remembers riding his wagon to the original Safeway, accompanying his mother for the weekly grocery shop in the 1940s.”
Fahr started off in the grocery industry at the age of 16 collecting buggies and worked for Save-On-Foods for more than 12 years.
Urban Grocer is hiring for a wide variety of positions, and interested applicants can apply online.
