Update: The Trans Canada Highway near the Malahat has reopened following a motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon.

According to West Shore RCMP, at around 2:50 p.m. a motorcycle travelling in the northbound lane collided with the median.

Both the driver of the motorcycle and the passenger sustained life threatening injuries.

RCMP traffic reconstructionist attended the scene and the northbound lanes of the highway was closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

As of 6:50 p.m. both lanes of the highway were reopened.

A crash involving a motorcycle has closed a portion of Highway 1 near the the Malahat Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. near Okotoks Drive in Langford.

According to witnesses, there were two people on the motorcycle, and it appeared they both have suffered serious injuries.

No detour is available at this time, according to Drive BC. Traffic heading northbound is being turned around at West Shore Parkway.
