A man wielding a machete was arrested by West Shore RCMP early Tuesday evening near a makeshift homeless encampment in Langford.

Police say they received a report of a man wielding a machete while chasing a man and woman in a wooded area near Millstream Road and Highway 1.

According to West Shore RCMP, the victims say that the suspect accused them of stealing from him, brandished a machete, and slashed up their tent.

The suspect then allegedly continued to yell at them and held the machete against the victims’ necks, saying he was going to cut them.

Police arrested the man and have charged him with assault with a weapon.

The 26-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
