Man arrested after smashing window at CIBC bank branch in Saanich

Saanich Police have arrested one man after he allegedly broke a window at a bank and was seen brandishing a knife.

At around 6:20 p.m. on June 16, police attended the 2900 block of Tillicum Road for reports of a man brandishing a knife after having smashed a window at the CIBC bank in the area.

Officers arrested the 59-year-old man who is currently in custody and facing charges of possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief under $5,000.

Police have already spoken to several witnesses in the area but believe there may have been others.

“We believe there may be at least one person in the area of the bank who had a direct interaction with this man but left before police arrived,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades in a statement.

“Investigators are trying to determine the events leading up to the arrest of this man.”
