Police searching for suspect in random assault outside downtown Victoria restaurant

Victoria Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly assaulted a man outside a restaurant in downtown Victoria.

According to a statement, police were called to a restaurant in the 1200 block of Wharf St at around 6:30 p.m. on June 7 for reports of the assault.

Investigation revealed that the victim was hit and pushed over to the ground by an unknown stranger, and received non life threatening injuries as a result of the incident.

The suspect was caught on surveillance footage sitting on the patio of the restaurant with three other people prior to the assault. The incident occurred near The Local pub on Wharf Street.

Officers are now looking to speak to the people who were sitting with the suspect, as well as any witnesses in the area who saw the assault take place, in an effort to identify him.

He is described as a Caucasian man in his 30s with a heavier build, brown hair that is short on the sides and longer on top, and a short beard.

At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a black Nike brand t-shirt , white shorts and black sandals.
