Skeletal remains of human body found near Nanaimo bus loop

Share

Nanaimo RCMP say they are investigating after an RDN Transit Supervisor made the grisly discovery of skeletal remains of a human body early Monday Night.

Police say the Supervisor made the discovery near the bus loop at 1 Port Drive.

The area was once the site of the largest tent city encampment in British Columbia, established in May 2018 and dismantled in December 2018.

Nanaimo RCMP say that no evidence of foul play has been found but they are not ruling it out as the investigation is still in preliminary stages.

As of Tuesday, officers had the area closed off and were conducting a grid search for more evidence related to the discovery.

Police say they have contacted the BC Coroners Service and the investigation is ongoing.
