Canada Post asks Victoria dog owners to secure pets after incidents

Share

Canada Post is asking Victoria’s dog owners to keep a leash on their furry friends after repeated incidents in 2020.

The postal service says they have experienced 18 different incidents involving dogs in Victoria so far this year.

Loose dogs can increase the risk of bites and hurt social distancing safety measures when owners step outside to retrieve the animals.

Canada Post is asking that people do not open the door during deliveries or allow dogs to approach their employees while out in the community.

They also suggest keeping dogs in a separate room during a delivery.

The Canadian Animal Health Institute estimates that 41 per cent of households across Canada have dogs.

A video from Canada Post reminding people about pet safety closes by saying “we appreciate a wave from you and your pet though!”
