Curfews instated after one Haida Gwaii resident reports positive COVID-19 test

One person has tested positive for COVID-19 on the Haida Gwaii island archipelago off the coast of B.C.

In a statement issued on Friday, Haida Nation advised residents that one individual has self-reported that they were tested for the virus and the test came back positive.

The bulletin also advised that the Council has heard from members of the community who were in close contact with the individual and are now in self isolation.

A state of emergency issued earlier this year was updated on Saturday, noting that the Skidegate and Old Massett councils have instated curfews and checkpoints to limit gatherings and travel in those communities.

Non-residents of Haida Gwaii continue to be prohibited from travelling to the islands at this time.

Residents are advised to remain on the islands unless travel is essential, and if they do choose to leave, must self isolate for 14 days upon return to Haida Gwaii.
