Police watchdog investigating incident in Tofino involving RCMP

Share

The Independent Investigation Office (IIO) of BC is investigating after RCMP officers were called to an incident in Tofino.

The civilian-run police oversight agency says that at approximately 8:45 p.m. on July 11, police responded to a report about a fight in a parking lot on Hyoh Eah Road in Tofino.

Upon arrival, officers arrested one man and took him into custody.

IIOBC says that the man indicated he was injured while interacting with police.

Emergency Health Services were called to transport him to a local hospital, and then to a larger area hospital where he underwent treatment before leaving.

The IIO is investigating to determine what role, if any, the officers’ actions or inaction may have played into the man’s injuries.

The agency is asking the public for help in the investigation. They say that anyone who saw, heard or recorded the incident can contact the IIO Witness Line toll free at 1-855-446-8477.
