Saanich man finds $2,000 worth of stolen construction equipment listed for sale online

A Saanich resident was able to recover some of his stolen construction equipment after finding the items listed for sale online.

According to Saanich Police, a suspect broke into a detached building at a residence in the 1800 block of Feltham Road. Construction equipment valued at over $2,000 was then stolen from the property.

The homeowner reported the incident to police on July 15, and an investigation was launched.

Around two weeks later, on July 27, the resident was browsing used ads online when he spotted two of his stolen items and informed police.

The investigation led officers to a home in the 1800 block of Harvard Place. A search warrant was executed on July 28 and both items were located, recovered, and returned to the owner.

“The owner of the items had previously recorded the serial numbers of the expensive tools which made it quite clear that the property recovered was in fact his,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades.

“We recommend that in addition to recording serial numbers, owners should take photographs and make notes of any unique markings on items that could assist police in proving ownership should the items be recovered.”

The investigation is still underway and no arrests have yet been made.
