VicPD have arrested one person as part of an investigation into a break and enter at a business in the Burnside Gorge area.

A representative with Dodd’s Furniture & Mattress confirmed by phone with Victoria Buzz that the break-in occurred at their warehouse at 650 Garbally Rd.

Brian Adam, Marketing Manager at Dodd’s, says that the thieves stole three wi-fi nodes used to communicate with warehouse workers, along with a variety of store supplies including pricing guns and gaff tape.

They also damaged the back gate of a security fence on the property.

“By the end of the day we think it will cost us $10,000,” said Adam.

Owner Gordy Dodd reportedly witnessed part of the incident remotely on surveillance video.

Officers were provided with an image of a suspect and arrested him a short while later in the 3000-block of Blanshard St.

Adam says the incident is the latest in an escalation of ongoing issues in the area.

“We’ve had an increased number of incidents including graffiti and vandalism,” he said. “Business neighbours have experienced threats and harassment.”

According to Adam, Dodd was “shaken up” by the incident and he and other staff are frustrated.

“His main concern is for the health and safety of his staff and his customers. When you have people coming in and saying ‘we don’t feel safe any more,’ that’s a problem.”

The break and enter remains under investigation.
