Victoria Police have issued an advisory reminding people to lock their doors despite the summer weather, after a local woman stopped an intruder from breaking into her apartment.

At around 11 p.m. on Wednesday July 29, police were called to an apartment building in the 700-block of Tyee Road for reports of an attempted break-and-enter.

The caller, a female resident of a ground-level apartment, said she had confronted an unknown man who had been trying to open her locked patio door.

The man then tried to open an adjacent door that was also locked, before moving on to try the patio door at a neighbouring suite which was also locked.

He then left the scene before police arrived.

The suspect is described as a 35-year-old Caucasian man standing six feet tall and at the time of the incident wore a black hoodie and a burgundy hat with a white symbol on it.

According to VicPD, this incident is a reminder of the importance of securing all doors and windows in spite of warm summer weather.
