Over half of the people involved in a drug trafficking ring out of Victoria’s Centennial Square have now been arrested.

In an update on Thursday morning, Victoria Police confirmed they have arrested 10 out of the 17 people for drug trafficking charges as of August 27.

On Wednesday, the department announced that between August 11 to 15, undercover officers in the Centennial Square area posed as customers and bought drugs from tents in Centennial Square, including methamphetamine, cocaine, psilocybin and fentanyl.

Tents in the square were used for drug trafficking in a rotating system. On some days, a tent could house a sleeping person, and on others, bedding would be removed and drug transactions would be conducted.

These findings were the result of an investigation that began due to an increase in violent crime in the area, including an incident where windows at City Hall were shot with a pellet gun and a pair of stabbings on August 10th.

Seven more people are now wanted for on outstanding warrants related to this investigation.
