Fire crews from four municipalities battle significant blaze near Westshore Parkway

Share

Fire crews from four municipalities around Greater Victoria responded to a fire near the Westshore Parkway late Monday afternoon.

A member of Colwood Fire Department confirmed that they had sent crews along with others from Langford, Metchosin and View Royal to battle the blaze.

The same member of Colwood Fire added that Langford Fire Department was coordinating the response, and was unable to confirm details of the fire.

According to BC Hydro’s outages map, a tree fell across wires in the area, which multiple witnesses say ignited the fire.

This was confirmed by Westshore RCMP, who added in a tweet that Sooke Road was closed to traffic between West Shore Parkway and Luxton Road while emergency crews worked.

DriveBC indicated that west bound traffic on Highway 14 was being detoured via Luxton Road, while east bound traffic was being detoured via Westshore Parkway.

The Highway reopened to traffic at 6:16 p.m., according to a tweet posted by DriveBC.

Victoria Buzz reached out to Langford Fire Department for comment but did not hear back before press time.
