Oak Bay seeks proposals for new Marina operator in 2023

Share

The District of Oak Bay is accepting proposals for a new long-term operator of the Oak Bay Marina, beginning in 2023.

Currently, the Oak Bay Marine Group leases the District-owned marina facilities and will finish their term at the end of 2022.

In the Request for Proposals (RFP), the District says that they are seeking environmentally responsible submissions to make use of the land and water areas in and around the Marina.

They say they are looking for “proposals that enhance community amenity value, make better use of the land (less surface area devoted to parking), and make the property more lively and more of a destination to a wider range of users.”

Another priority highlighted in the RFP is a request for leasing companies that are “respectful of First Nations culture, language, traditions and world views.”

The area where the Marina is located is a 2.6 hectare (6.4 acre) promontory and breakwater known as Turkey Head, which also includes a large surface parking lot.

Most of the lands around the Marina are owned by the District, while some are leased from the Province and would be sub-leased to the winning proposal.

The new lease would be effective from 2023 until 2052.

Proposals for a new leasehold operator are being accepted until 2 p.m. on November 30.
