Police seek witnesses in violent sexual assault in downtown Victoria

VicPD are asking the public for help tracking down the suspect in a violent sexual assault that occurred in downtown Victoria Monday night.

Officers were called to the 600 block Pembroke Street shortly before 11:30 p.m. on September 7 for a report of a sexual assault.

According to police the victim in the assault was physically attacked by an unknown man, who then sexually assaulted the victim within a fenced-in area between the 600 block of Pembroke Street and the 600 block of Princess Avenue.

Investigators believe the attack occurred shortly after 10 p.m.

The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police describe the suspect as a 30 to 40-year-old Black man, standing approximately six feet tall with a slim build and short hair.

He wore a surgical mask, jeans and a t-shirt and was described as well dressed. He spoke with an accent that the victim described as east African.

The suspect was pushing a bicycle described as an older-style racing bicycle.
