Potentially impaired driver crashes into stopped vehicle near Langford

West Shore RCMP are continuing their investigation into a potential impaired driving incident that led to a collision near Langford about a month ago.

In a statement released Tuesday, the police department said an investigation was launched after a witness reported a possible impaired driver in a black 2009 Volkswagen Jetta swerving all over the road while heading south bound on the Malahat toward Langford on August 14.

The driver then exited the highway onto Millstream Rd and crashed into a vehicle that was stopped on the off ramp.

Officers from West Shore RCMP arrived on scene right away and found that there were no injuries in the collision.

The driver of the Jetta was identified as a 41-year-old man from Langford who was exhibiting symptoms of drug impairment.

Police are continuing their impaired driving investigation and impaired driving charges under the Criminal Code are pending.

“We want to thank the witness for calling police. If you see dangerous driving behaviour or suspect an impaired driver call it in right away,” said Cst. nancy Saggar.

The driver in this investigation was issued a 24 hour driving prohibition. and his vehicle was impounded.
