Voter registration for BC 2020 Election ends September 26

Share

Elections BC are reminding residents that the deadline to register to vote, or update voter information is coming up soon.

Citizens looking to register or update their information over the phone can do so by calling Elections BC at 1-800-661-8683 until 8 p.m. PST on Saturday, September 26.

Those who wish to do the same online can go to elections.bc.ca/ovr until 11:59 p.m., Saturday September 26.

These deadlines are for those who wish to have their registration processed in a quick and timely manner.

After September 26, voters can still register or update their information when they’re at the polling station, but are asked to do so ahead of time.

“Voters are encouraged to make sure their information is up to date now so they can vote faster, help reduce lineups at voting places and support physical distancing,” reads a statement from Elections BC.

Once the deadlines have passed, citizens can still request a vote-by-mail package online or by phone, but if they are not registered or their voter information is out of date, they will need to take additional steps when completing their package.

These steps include providing copies of acceptable identification when returning their package.

The Elections BC contact centre will be open until 8 p.m. PT on Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pacific time tomorrow, Saturday, September 26.

As of Friday, the authority has received about 205,000 requests for vote-by-mail packages, compared to just 6,500 requests during the entire provincial election in 2017.
