Wastewater overflows in Oak Bay and Saanich prompt advisory from CRD

Share

The CRD has issued an advisory after heavy rainfall overnight led to some unpleasant consequences.

A combination of stormwater and wastewater has overflowed along some shorelines in Oak Bay and Saanich.

As a result, on September 24, residents are advised not to enter the water—be it to swim or boat—along the affected shorelines as the wastewater could pose a health risk.

The areas affected are:

  • Between Rutland Road (Oak Bay) and Seaview Road (Saanich) including Cadboro Bay.
  • Between Currie Road and Cattle Point Lookout Road, including Willows Beach in Oak Bay.

Public health advisory signs will be posted at beaches in the affected areas to warn people of the wastewater discharge as a precaution, in consultation with Island Health and local municipalities.

The advisories will be posted until sample results indicate enterococci levels are below the 70CFU/100mL recreational limit.
