West Shore RCMP seize replica firearms and .303 rifle from Langford home

West Shore RCMP officers say they have seized a huge quantity of replica firearms, along with a real rifle, from a house in Langford.

Officers executed a search warrant in the 600 block of Phelps Road on September 15 after receiving a report of multiple firearms at a residence.

A witness told police that one of the firearms looked like a prohibited machine gun. Police also learned that the tenant of the residence did not have a valid firearms license.

Police seized one .303 rifle along with 36 replica firearms varying from assault style machine guns and long guns and handguns.

Investigators are examining the replica firearms to determine if any may have been altered to perform like a real firearm.

“We do come across replica firearms which are not illegal to possess,” said Cst. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.

“However, the sheer quantity of replica firearms found openly laying round this home alongside a real .303 rifle is a public safety concern.”

West Shore RCMP say the 62-year-old man who owned the guns has a lengthy criminal record and has other unrelated matters before the courts.

Officers are still investigating and firearm charges for unauthorized possession of the rifle are pending.
