Without further ado, here are five things to do today, Friday October 23rd:

Outdoor Music Fridays at Jagasilk

Yerma

The Canadian College of Performing Arts presents Federico García Lorca’s epic classic tale of a young married woman struggling to become a mother, reimagined through Mercedes Bátiz-Benét’s biting direction. Yerma is a woman trapped in a loveless marriage and confined by the strict moral code of her community. This acclaimed drama pushes her deeper into desperation that builds to a shocking and staggering climax.
New this year, the college will be offering livestream access to their productions! The college has invested in a 3-camera set up to broadcast performances live. You will have access and angles like you’ve never experienced in theatre before, plus the best seat in the house for every show – your own!

Facilitated tour of Craigdarroch Castle

Take a guided tour of the beautiful and historic Craigdarroch Castle. Tours run 75 minutes in length. Built by coal baron Robert Dunsmuir during the reign of Queen Victoria and now a National Historic Site, Craigdarroch Castle has been meticulously restored, giving visitors a glimpse of privileged life in the 1890s.

  • Where: 1701 Douglas Street, Victoria

Blackbird at Cinecenta

Fifty years after making a memorable screen debut in “Joe,” the majestic Susan Sarandon is still at the top of her game as Lily, who has lived a long and rich life, from her activism to her marriage to a loving husband Paul (Sam Neill) to her two grown daughters, Jennifer (Kate Winslet) and Anna (Mia Wasikowska). Lily has ALS, and her illness has reached the stage where it’s a struggle for her to get out of bed in the morning. Rather than spend her final months hooked up to tubes, Lily has invited the extended family to her Architectural Digest-friendly home in the Hamptons — and once the weekend is over, her husband, who just happens to be a very successful doctor, will administer a concoction that will put Lily to sleep, never to wake up again.

  • When: Showtimes at 5 p.m. and 7:10 p.m.
  • Where: Cinecenta, 3800 Finnerty Road
