Three different collisions on the northbound section of the Patricia Bay Highway brought traffic to a standstill Thursday afternoon.
According to Saanich Police the incidents were all minor rear-end motor vehicle collisions, between Haliburton Road and Old East Road.
In a tweet posted at 12:39 p.m., police said they were working to clear the area of nine vehicles involved in the fender benders.
Traffic cameras on Drive BC showed traffic near bumper-to-bumper in the northbound lanes all the way to Royal Oak Drive.
Saanich Police reminded people to drive with care.
Just under 20 minutes later, Saanich Police tweeted that they were responding to a fourth crash, this time in the southbound lanes of Highway 17.
They added that current road conditions were not icy, and it was not snowing. Police also stressed again the importance of allowing a safe following distance.
Confirming the roads are not icy nor is it snowing. We are attending to yet another minor-rear-end collision #4 this time southbound Hwy17. Please pay attention while driving and allow for a safe following distance. #notsnowinginSaanich
