Canadian Legion partners with HSBC to offer new tap-enabled poppy boxes

Canadians will have the option to donate by touchless tap-payment when they pick up a poppy this year, thanks to a partnership between the Legion and HSBC.

The Royal Canadian Legion unveiled a new poppy box on Tuesday that they say was created through a partnership between their organization and HSBC Bank Canada.

The “Pay Tribute” donation box features tap-enabled technology that will offer cash-free options for donors who wish to contribute to the Poppy Fund.

Placing a tap enabled payment card or tap and pay technology device on the glowing poppy will donate two dollars from the user’s account to the fund.

“We are excited to present this new way to make it easier for Canadians to donate during the National Poppy Campaign,” says Thomas D. Irvine, Dominion President, The Royal Canadian Legion.

“We are pleased to partner with HSBC Bank Canada on this innovative initiative and hope that it will grow in the years to come.”

Over 250 “Pay Tribute” boxes will be distributed across Canada at HSBC and Legion branches and other select locations.

More information on the design of the boxes and a “Pay Tribute” box locator tool are available online at the HSBC website.
