Yesterday was the coldest October 25 in Victoria in over 100 years, according to data from Environment Canada collected by the website Rolf’s Weather.

Data from the Victoria Gonzalez weather station shows that the lowest maximum temperature recorded on October 25 was in 1919, at 7.2 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday, October 25, 2020 the monitoring station nearly hit that record low, with a maximum temperature of just 7.4 degrees.

The weather station at Victoria International Airport showed similarly chilly temperatures, with a record-breaking low maximum temperature of just 6.4 degrees, the lowest recorded since the station started in 1940.

Sunday also marked the first frost of the season, which typically occurs around November 9. The earliest recorded winter frost in Victoria was September 27, 1972.

The Weather Network had earlier predicted an unseasonably cold winter due to La Niña, which is likely exacerbated by climate change.
