The District of Saanich is moving forward with plans to lower the speed limit on a section of Prospect Lake Road to 30 km/h.

The change follows a traffic operations and safety review of the road that was completed in July.

One of the recommendations from the report was to reduce the statutory speed limit from 50 km/h to 30 km/h between Estlline Rd. and Goward Rd.

“Reducing speeds along this section of the corridor is an additional item to improve the safety and comfort of everybody on the road,” said Mayor Fred Haynes.

“We encourage all road users to be safe, courteous and to watch out for one another as we make these improvements.”

The change is set to take effect on December 1, 2020.

Additional changes to Prospect Lake Road include the installation of a centerline rumble strip south of Munn Rd., a roadside barrier and single lane yield point to reduce speeds at Calvert Park and a reconstruction of the intersection at West Saanich Rd. to provide fully protected pedestrian and cyclist crossings using the Interurban Trail.
