Driver claims dog was at the wheel after crashing into ditch in Comox

We’ve all heard the one about the dog who ate the homework. But what about the dog who crashed the car?

That’s the excuse one driver gave to a Comox Valley RCMP officer after they were found crashed in a ditch.

The RCMP say they were notified about the crash on December 1st. An officer went out to the scene on Lazo Road in Comox and was met by a woman and her dog.

The woman told police that she and her dog were the only occupants in the vehicle at the time it was driven into the ditch.

And, she added, the dog was the one driving the car.

RCMP say the officer came to the conclusion that the woman was impaired by alcohol.

The driver refused a breath sample, and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition.

No information was given on if the dog was also breathalyzed.
