A driver involved in a head-on collision in Qualicum Beach on Thursday died on scene, according to Oceanside RCMP.

First responders were called to the collision at approximately 3:15 p.m. on December 17.

An eastbound pickup truck and a westbound SUV had crashed directly into each other on Rupert Road, just west of Jones street.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 52-year-old man from Coombs, was deceased at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

The 35-year-old driver of the SUV, a man from Parksville, was airlifted to hospital with unknown injuries. He was later determined to be in stable condition.

No other occupants were in the vehicles at the time of the crash.

Oceanside RCMP say the initial investigation suggests the 35-year-old driver of the SUV suddenly left his lane, entering the path of oncoming traffic, and collided head-on with the deceased driver’s vehicle.

RCMP Collision Analysts are working alongside investigators and causal factors have yet to be determined.

Anyone with further evidence of the collision is asked to call Constable Parish of the Oceanside RCMP at (250)248-6111.
