DVBA launches ‘Downtown Delivers’ program to support local businesses

Share

Local businesses are getting a helping hand to reach regional customers thanks to a new program from the Downtown Victoria Business Association (DVBA).

The DVBA is launching “Downtown Delivers,” a subsidized delivery program, on Monday, December 7, 2020.

Through the program, DVBA member retailers will be able to deliver to customers in the Sooke to Sidney region for free.

Deliveries will be subsidized by the DVBA through three local courier companies: Maximum Express, NomadEx Bike Cargo, and Geazone.

“A $30 purchase to Amazon has no impact in the local economy,” said Jeff Bray, Executive Director of the DVBA.

“That same purchase, when bought from a local retailer and delivered by a local courier service, stays in Victoria.”

“Downtown Delivers” is expected to run through the holiday season until at least January 15, 2021. If funding permits for an extension, it could continue for longer.

Member retailers and business owners have been contacted about the program already. The DVBA says that any business who believes they are part of the Association but has not received information about “Downtown Delivers” should email info@downtownvictoria.ca.
