High winds expected on North Island from intense frontal system

Share

High winds are expected on the North Island today as an “intense” frontal system approaches the B.C. coast.

Southeasterly winds are expected to reach speeds from 80 to 100 km/h over Haida Gwaii, coastal areas of the central coast and North Vancouver Island this evening.

Environment Canada says that the winds will ease before Tuesday morning as the frontal system passes.

They remind drivers to adjust to changing road conditions due to the high winds, and to be cautious and aware of loose objects being tossed by the wind that may cause injury or damage.

Updates on severe weather conditions will be posted to the Environment Canada website.
