The BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) is asking the public to report illegal hunting and poaching after three elk were found killed near Lake Cowichan.
In a Facebook post on Friday, officers say two of the Roosevelt elk had only a minimal amount of meat harvested.
“One elk was left to waste,” the BCCOS said. “This is a senseless crime against our wildlife resources.”
The incident resembles a similar one from April 2020, when the BCCOS reported that three more Roosevelt elk had been illegally killed.
In the earlier incident, the illegal killing also took place near Lake Cowichan, over a two-week period.
