A man was arrested in Colwood yesterday after he destroyed some outdoor holiday decorations and attempted to break into a residence.

West Shore RCMP responded to a report of a man attempting a break-in on December 28 at approximately 1 p.m.

The caller said she was a homeowner in the 2200 block of Marlene Drive in Colwood, and the man was trying to break into her home.

Officers arrived within minutes and saw a suspect carrying a stick being chased away from the home by a neighbour.

Police apprehended the suspect, a 53-year-old man, and arrested him for break and enter and mischief.

The suspect had destroyed nearly $300 worth of holiday decorations that belonged to the neighbour, smashing them with the stick he had been carrying.

RCMP say the suspect appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. No one was injured in the incident.
