Mount Washington kicks off ski resort opening with COVID-19 changes

Share

Mount Washington officially opened for their alpine season on Friday with some COVID-19 modifications to their operation.

To support social distancing efforts, the Mount Washington resort is enforcing a mask policy where face coverings must be worn from the time people exit their vehicle at the resort.

They ask that visitors keep masks on from their vehicles to the base area, as well as in lodges and on chairlifts. The only place where they advise people can take off their masks for a breather is when individuals are safely away from others on trails.

Personal item storage will not be available this season, as day lockers will be closed. The resort is advising visitors to use their vehicles for storage.

To help with physical distancing, they are also asking patrons to follow one-way traffic patterns at buildings and to respect posted signage.

Food services will be open, however, including Ted’s, The Cantina, Eagle View Bistro, and the Alpine Cafeteria. Visitors will be asked to limit their time in designated dining areas, and are cautioned that washroom lineups may extend outdoors at times due to distancing.

Chairlifts will be loaded with household groups, while single riders can ride with others so long as they are properly distanced.

Only a handful of lifts are operating on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., including the Whiskey Jack, Hawk 6 Pack, and the Teaching Carpet.

All Carpet lifts will be open on Saturday and Sunday. The following runs are open this weekend:

  • Coaster
  • Terrain Park (no features)
  • Reverse Traverse
  • Jacks
  • Lower Westerly
  • Easy Rider

Mount Washington resort says their staff are working to open more terrain in the area around Lower Linton’s loop to Rainbow. Updates will be posted to the resort’s Alpine Trail Report section.

Day lift tickets must be booked online in advance and are not available in-person. Season Pass and 6ixPak holders do not have to make reservations to ski or ride.

The resort says they will be opening Nordic cross-country skiing and Snowshoe hiking on December 11th, while the Tube Park will open on December 12th and Night Ski operations will begin December 18th.
