Nanaimo RCMP are asking the public for help to locate a violent suspect believed to be on central Vancouver Island.

49-year-old Heath Handy is wanted for assault causing bodily harm, break and enter, assault and obstruction of justice.

The charges against Handy stem from an incident in June 2020 at a residence in South Nanaimo.

Police were called to the residence just after 7 a.m. on June 4, 2020. The victim told officers that she had dated Handy for a period of time.

She said he broke into her home and assaulted and threatened her repeatedly over a period of 14 hours.

The victim said that Handy had fled just prior to the police arriving. RCMP say she was shaken and received injuries but did not require hospitalization.

Repeated attempts by officers to locate Handy have been unsuccessful.

He is described as an Indigenous man, 6 feet tall, weighing 210 pounds.

Handy has friends and family throughout central Vancouver Island and is known to stay in harbour from time to time on a boat he owns named the Flying Vessel.

RCMP say he should be considered violent.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Heath Handy is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2020-20190.
