Nanaimo RCMP are asking the public for help to identify a suspect who assaulted a female youth in her late teens in Cedar.

The incident occurred sometime between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on December 10, 2020, near the Cedar Skate Bowl on Macmillan Road.

The victim told police she went to the skate park to look for a friend. While there, she engaged in conversation with a man who was unknown to her.

After a few minutes, the youth turned to walk away. The suspect then grabbed her wrist and assaulted her.

The victim fought back and the man fled in an unknown direction. The youth was uninjured but shaken by the attack.

The suspect is described as an Indigenous man in his mid-twenties, between 6 feet to 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a thin build.

He had long hair sticking out from underneath a black DC hat with a white logo and green under its brim.

The man was also wearing a black cloth mask, brown ripped jacket, black pants, worn-out runners and a silver chain necklace with a cross around his neck.

He is also described as having difficulty pronouncing C’s and S’s.

Anyone with information on this incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file #2020-45182.
